Ashwicken CE Primary School Caring for Each Other
and Caring for Our World

Eco-School

This year, we have been working towards our Green Flag status. This means we are aiming to be environmentally friendly, and working towards making better choices with the least impact on our planet. Our hard work has earned us the Bronze and Silver Award, so far.

We have participated in Earth Hour, when the whole school had electricity turned off for one hour. We gained knowledge and understanding of plastic pollution from the Cornish Plastic Pollution Coalition workshops for KS1 and KS2. We have also participated in Earth Day, with each class choosing their own activities to recognise the importance of our environment. Each class has worked on environmental issues through different curriculum subjects, including science, English, art, French and maths.

Plastic Pollution

The Chaffinches class designed posters to warn people about the dangers of plastic pollution in our oceans:

The Chaffinches also designed their own Ocean Cleaning Machines:

The Kingfishers learned about plastic pollution and wrote persuasive letters to help save our environment:

Earth Day

On Thursday 22nd April 2021, the children learned about Earth Day and participated in some activities.

The Kingfisher class designed Earth Day posters in French!

The Owls class made pledges to help ‘Restore our Earth’, they wrote Earth Day acrostic poems and used their creativity to make some Land Art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. This also linked to our Art topic this term which is ‘Natural Sculpture’. The children used all natural materials from the environment to create their Land Art. Well done Owl Class!
