Black History Month
During the month of October we are celebrating Black History Month.
Each year, Black History Month is celebrated in the UK - the first was in 1987.
Black History Month is a way to celebrate and recognise the contribution of Black people to British society. Black History Month in the UK celebrates the History, Arts and Culture of Black British people.
The 2023 Black History Month's theme is 'Saluting Our Sisters' this focuses on celebrating and highlighting the achievements of Black women throughout History and in present day.
Everyone can participate in Black History Month by championing, and celebrating diversity and embracing its theme through demonstrating inclusivity and challenging bad behaviours.
Here at Ashwicken CofE School we have been looking at influential women in black history. We will focus on the achievements from both historic and modern day black women , with a particular focus on women from the UK. In KS1 and KS2 we will be learning about why Black History Month is important and we will be celebrating the achievements of black women in history and today.
